Private Art Lessons

Come work in a creative environment with a professional artist for one-on-one sessions that will help you develop your skills, direction, and focus. Beki Borman graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in 2004 with a BFA in painting. She has worked for years in both painting and drawing mediums and is well versed in tools and techniques as well as design and composition. Beki has taught classes and workshops at several locations throughout Southeastern Wisconsin and has experience with oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, graphite, and more.

No matter your experience, Beki will develop a plan and schedule with you to work with your goals as an artist. She will work with you side by side in her studio, offering guidance, feedback, while providing lessons and learning plans uniquely designed for you. There is no obligation, you pay by the hour and can cancel at any time.

Beki’s studio is located in Bay View, south of downtown Milwaukee, at the Hide House. This a community of studios and houses many wonderful artists! The Hide House is located at:

Lessons start at $25/hr, students provide their own materials. For a travel fee, Beki can come to you as well. This fee will vary depending on distance.

An artist really learns to paint when given the freedom to let go of a subject and the expectations of a single painting. This class will help students do this through repetition and technique. Painting the same subject more than twenty times, students will learn experimentation and will be challenged to find ways to rediscover the subject. The uses of acrylic paint will be covered as part of the journey. Group discussion and individual critique will guide students development and creation of a strong series.

With a focus on design and composition, students will start with a theme or idea and create mixed media works. These works will incorporate painting, drawing, cut paper, pasting, layering, etc. Demonstrations and lectures will be used to show students how they can combine many of these items to create interesting and unique works. This class is open to anyone, but some art background may be helpful.

Learn the art of drawing with pastels.  Working from photograph, students will learn how to layer color and marks to create vibrant and accurate pastel drawings.  This is a great opportunity to learn about color and composition.  Your instructor will demonstrate how to get started.  Step by step instructions on how to build your image will  help you along the way.   Supplies included!  New Class

This class will focus on the art of painting landscapes. Working from your own photos of magazine pictures, students can paint in either watercolor or acrylic.  We will discuss composition, and focus on techniques that give landscapes depth, atmosphere, and emotion.

Students will be submerged in the potential uses of watercolor with an emphasis on experimentation. The workshop will focus on technique beginning with several demos that cover application, mark making, layering, and gouache, stamping, etc. Students will be encouraged to creatively think of their own techniques and develop a unique process. A final painting will be completed using 2 or 3 chosen techniques. This class can be an excellent place for beginners to see all the possibilities watermedia offers, as well as an opportunity for more experienced painters to discover new ways of handling the medium.

Learn how to see and paint abstractly! We will look at historical references to understand the different kinds of abstraction, such as formal abstraction vs. expressive abstraction. We will discuss color, line, composition, and context and how these elements can be utilized in creating a strong painting in the absence of a traditional subject. Multiple paintings in this class will cover the different types of abstract painting.
